San Juan Del Sur, Nicaragua
This incredible moment was captured by Dane on the shores of San Juan Del Sur, a sleepy surf town on the south-west coast of Nicaragua. We spent three weeks here learning Spanish and surfing up and down the nearby coast.
About an hour by bus from the Costa Rican border, San Juan is the perfect place for travellers to top up their Spanish, enjoy uncrowded surf, fresh seafood and loads of Nicaraguan coffee.
If you are a surfer, make sure you head for the famous Popoyo surf spot. Ask any of the locals hanging out on the main strip, for a small price they’ll take you out on their boat.
1. Learn Spanish on the beach, there’s plenty of schools, we took lessons at San Juan Del Sur Spanish School - http://www.sjdsspanish.com/
2. Eat seafood on the beach at sunset and take in the world
3. Enjoy local coffee and English language books at El Gato Negro coffee shop
4. Watch turtles hatch out of eggs by moonlight – try hostel Casa Oro who can organise it for you.
5. If you’re not a surfer, try it – there’s great, uncrowded surf
